Default pages, search strings and prefixes

This tab displays default pages, search strings and URL prefixes for Internet Explorer. The meaning of the strings may vary depending on the version of Internet Explorer installed.


The Edit Action

Changes the appropriate entry in the registry to the value specified.

The Reset Action

Changes the appropriate entry in the registry to its default value.

Properties


Start Page (Home Page) The web page IE loads on startup.
DefaultPrefix The prefix IE adds automatically if you do not specify the protocol part of a URL (e.g. http:// or ftp://). For example, if you type google.com and the default prefix is http://gohere.com?s= then IE navigates to http://gohere.com?s=google.com.
WWW Prefix The prefix IE adds automatically if you do not specify the protocol part of a URL (e.g. http:// or ftp://) and the address you type starts with www, e.g. www.microsoft.com.
SearchAssistant The web page displayed in the Search Bar in Internet Explorer (click Search on the Internet Explorer toolbar).
CustomizeSearch The web page displayed when you click Custom on the Search Bar.
Search Page The search page displayed when you click Start, point to Find, and then click On The Internet.
Search Bar The web page displayed in the Search Bar in Internet Explorer (click Search on the Internet Explorer toolbar).
SearchURL The URL Internet Explorer uses when you type "go," "find," or "?" in the address field of IE or select "Search for" from the address drop-down list.
Deafult_Page_URL The URL that IE sets as your home page when you click Internet Options -> Home page -> Use default.
Default_Search_URL The same as the "Search Page" value.
about: The web pages IE displays when an error occurs during navigation. The "about:blank" value points to the blank web page.
